A short diversion to experience Tibetan culture

It's Tuesday 5th October and we are in Xiahe which is some 4 hours drive from Lanzhou in Gansu Province and is 10,000ft above sea level. We have diverted from the silk road to come to this largely Tibetan town where the famous Labrang monastery (see next post, above) is located, the home of some 2,000 monks of the yellow hat branch of buddhism where they study and pray.

Yesterday we took a tour of the grasslands above Xiahe to visit Gan Jin Bajiao, a 2000 year old mud walled village and a remote monastery nearby.
