Kuche, a town of two halves

Kuche is a town of about 100,000 along the northern ancient Silk Road that follows the base of the mountains to the north of the Taklamakan desert.
It is very much a town of two halves, with the eastern end being the more modern Han Chinese area and the western side of town being the old town that is very much the stronghold of the Uighur muslim population. Here are some photos taken in the atmospheric Old Town on the morning of Tuesday 19th October.
Time can be a bit of a problem in Xinjiang Province as local time is two hours behind Beijing time. So you have to be sure which is being used.
Breakfast here is served in our hotel from 9.00am which we thought was very late until we realised that it was 7.00am local time.
