The Bazaar at Turpan

Nearly if not all Chinese towns have a bazaar or market stall area and Uighur (pronounced we-ger) dominated Turpan is no exception. Here all life can be seen and if you are polite or discreet you can take photos of people and their stalls and produce with little complaint. Turpan Bazaar is a large area of buildings, shacks and stalls with alleyways thronged with local people buying their everyday needs. You feel a little conspicuous with western clothes and a camera, but most people are quiet used to some tourists and they seem pretty happy to show you what they are making, mending and selling. Here's a few shots to give you the flavour, and even the smells of the place (if you close your eyes and imagine for a moment).
